What is a missed abortion


A missed miscarriage is when the fetus is no longer developing nornally but a complete abortion has not yet occurred. A missed miscarriage is linked with a higher risk of miscarriage or spontaneous abortion. It is a condintion in which all of the products of conception and parts of the tissue remain in the uterus. It is also referred to as delayed abortion.

The clinical manifestations of a Threatening abortion include uterine bleeding, pain, fever and lower back pain. Other symptoms include sadness, pale moist skin, low blood pressure, and guilt often occur afterwards. Intrauterine fetal death can lead to the clinical presentations of dead fetus syndrome with DIC, significantly lower plasma fibrinogen levels, and vaginal bleeding after delivery. Without prompt diagnosis and treatment, it can lead to a septic shock and death. A suction curettage is done along with oxytocin infusion for women in the second trimester of pregnancy to remove the retained pregnancy products and tissue after abortion.
